The Union is reputed for donating to support worthy causes such as national day and festival celebrations, rural development initiatives, making provision for needy individuals and institutions to strengthen their capacity to fulfill their mandates. Evidence of this abounds in the Union’s catchment area. And they are in fulfillment of the Union’s social responsibility as a good corporate citizen.
Highlights of donations for the worthy causes include the provision of bedspread worth GHC64, 000.00 in 2014 to 11 health facilities spread throughout the Brong Ahafo Region. The facilities are the Holy Family Hospital, Arms Maternity Home, Koranteng Memorial Clinic/Maternity Home, Opoku Agyeman Hospital and Mount Olives Hospital –all in Techiman. The rest are the St Thereza’s Hospital- Nkoranza, S. D. A. Hospital – Sunyani, Kintampo Municipal Hospital, Yezur Clinic – Kintampo, Sunkwa Clinic and Prince of Peace Clinic/Maternity Home at Kintampo.
The Union has donated various sums of money to underwrite the medical bills of a number of hole- in -heart patients in its catchment area. The Union also annually donates farm implements such as cutlasses, wellington boots, wheel barrows etc towards farmers’ day celebration at district levels in all its catchment area. Also in 2014, the Union supported the Production and Publication of the Techiman State Book project to the tune of GHC15,000.00.
In an effort to alleviate the effect of the load shedding programmme by the Electricity Company of Ghana on the Holy Family Hospital, Techiman, the Union during the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hospital, last year, donated an 80 KVA power generator, valued at One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC120,000.00) to the Hospital. This has greatly enhanced the work of the Hospital. Today surgical operations, clinical activities, in patients’ care and other services at the Hospital are carried out 24/7 – thanks to the availability of the plant!
Again, a notice board has been installed at the Techiman campus of the Valley View University by the Credit Union. Currently, work for the construction of a GHC65, 000.00 police Station at Forikrom on the Techiman Nkoranza highway, to boost security on the highway and in the area, is completed. These are but a few of the social responsibility activities originated from the Union’s head office in Techiman.
The Kintampo and Buipe branches have their own stories to tell on the Union’s Social responsibility. Kintampo branch has, within the first five years of existence, demonstrated its readiness to coexist peacefully with its neighbours as a good corporate citizen. It has already contributed 5,000 Ghana Cedis towards the purchase of library books to the local Kintampo children’s library.
On another occasion the branch donated 10,000 Ghana Cedis towards the purchase of uniforms for the Kintampo Government Hospital. Again, the hospital benefitted from a 64,000.00 Ghana Cedis donation the Union provided from the head office to most hospitals in its Catchment area during the 2014/2015 financial year.
Also the hospital was given GHC 1,000.00 to help managed victims during the recent accident in the area involving a Metro Mass Transport Bus and cargo truck, which claimed several lives. An amount of GHC3,000.00 was donated to renovate the co-operative office at Kintampo.
Lastly, the local Kintampo Health Insurance office was also recently given fifty plastic chairs to help facilitate the registration of members for the scheme. Even the youngest branch, Buipe has been alive to its Social Responsibility. It recently supported the 41st local Gonja Youth Conference with GHC1,000.00. The branch was again present at the local Damba festival as well as Christmas and Idir Adha celebration with donations of various sums of money.
ACCU opened of its newest Branch (Abosomankotere House) at Sunyani, near Cocoa House of the Brong Ahafo regional capital on May 2, 2016. The union during the 2015/2016 physical year constructed a police station at Forikrom on the TechimanNkoranza Highway to improve security for travellers and community members along the highway. The above account is only part of the story the Abosomankotere Cooperative Credit Union has to tell as it holds the 46th Annual General Meeting since its establishment at Techiman. With such an account one can only conjecture better days ahead as the Union moves into the years ahead.
